Ellen DeGeneres broke down in tears as she discussed the death of her friend and impressive NBA champion Kobe Bryant in the opening monologue of her eponymous chat show.
The 62-year-old comedian was overcome with emotion on Monday as she talked about the late NBA star in scenes that will air on Tuesday’s show.
Reflecting on Kobe’s sudden death over the weekend, she mused that she had been looking forward to celebrating her birthday and watching the Grammy Awards, only for ‘everything to change in a second’.
She shared things like the disappointment that she has never faced on facing the stage. Kobe, 41, was killed due to a helicopter crash on Sunday morning in Calabasas, California, along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others.
